Discovering abstract acrylic art:
I am a self-taught artist from Birmingham, UK. For many years I have drawn animals with pastel pencils. However, in the last few years, I have turned my hand to abstract acrylic painting, which is quite technical to produce but a lot of fun and it gives my eyes a rest from doing fine art.
My inspiration comes from the actual process really. I start with an idea for the colour scheme, usually chosen to match decor. Then I choose one of the many techniques of fluid art, mix the paints to the desired ratios and consistency with various additives that help to create effects, then start the painting. Whilst the paint is wet on the canvas, I study it and adapt certain areas to make the painting more interesting and flow better.
Due to the amount of paint and other mediums used, the painting has to lie completely level for at least 24 hours. It dries in about 48 hours but then has cure for at least another 2 days before I put 3 coats of glaze over it, to protect against UV light and increase the depth of colour. The methods and materials I use are fully archival.
